I am pretty sure that many of you here will be book readers, so much so that reading would be an inseparable part of your life. Yes, I’d say that too, that I love reading books, I love to get lost in an imaginary world. But today I read something which shook my beliefs, that I was or am a book reader.
So I say that I read books, but how many, which ones? There are so many books and which ones do I pick?
I know the quantity does not matter, the quality does, but wait till you read this..
What do you say now? 😀
I am not much of a calculative person, but I am pretty sure that I am not reading since I was 5, I sometimes take more than a week to complete a book, and what more? I might not even live to be 80.
So I don’t even read 1% of fiction, non-fiction that is available to me and I call myself a reader?
Love reading but I am a slow reader !! It’s on mood !! Sometimes I finish in 3 days or sometimes more time like fortnight!!
My only purpose is to enjoy reading

That’s quite a take you have on reading 🙂

Good morning 🙂
I had books read to me at 5, but l didn’t start reading for myself till about 7. When l guess l read about 1 a month, by ten it was around 5 a month, by 14 l could read 7 – 10 Pan Horrors in a weekend and probably a further 6 books during the week. But l was younger then, so could absorb more.
Since turning 20 however, l dedicated time to reading whereever and whenever l could and vowed to read between 50 – 80 books a year, which l have maintained since then. 35 years of reading and still as the quote above suggests, l have even really begun to read by those statistics.
Interesting post indeed. Right, best get on reading again 🙂

Oh my, my!! I am inspired!!
I agree as we grow older we tend to lose on reading with other responsibilities.
But as you said, we should get on reading 🙂
Thanks a lot for stopping by and leaving behind your experience.

Hi Moushmi,
interesting calculation. Well, I believe that we need to be very picky with books. It is not important how many books we read, but what is real important is that we learn something new from every book we read. There are many books that only occupy our memory.

You must be a bibliophile but now I am a bit curious of what are top favoraite genres and top 5 current recommended books?

I could be called a bibliophile. But I don’t have favourites. I am up for anything except horror.
Though some of my all time favourites are-
Eat Part Love; Pride and Prejudice; Great Expectations; Kafka on the Shore and many more but only these come to my mind right now 😀

Yeah same here. I cannot really read horror.
Pride and prejudice yesss it’s a beautiful book and I love the movie more. Your have a good collection but I agree it’s hard to choose favorites. Good to know more about you.

that’s pretty mindblowing! but by that definition i’m not sure anybody would qualify as a reader (unless you count computers). I think the main thing is how much you enjoy it and how dedicated you are to it

Absolutely right. The count is not required, the pleasure of reading is.

Reading is purely for leisure. I never keep a count of reading but since last year, I have been keeping a track of the books that I read. This year for the first time I took good reads challenge and have set myself a goal of reading 40 books a year. However, I still read at my own pace so that I enjoy reading or else reading would also become a chore.

That is quite a challenge, and I don’t keep track either but it is only till I read this that I gave it a thought.

Since childhood I used to think about the innumerable books present on earth, in different languages, in thousands of libraries and how I will never be able to read each one of them which means I will be devoid of so much knowledge hidden in them. Sometime somewhere an aim developed that I will read whatever comes my way and in college when I got introduced to the big library i was awed by the number of books in that and i made library my second home! So much so that I used to be the top reader every month based on number of books I used to finish in a week (3-4 books a week)….then after i started working, the frequency got reduced but i would get to buy the books now! I also realised i liked reading slowly over couple of days, reading some pages and then munching on them in my mind, trying to imagine and digest, that way even though duration to finish a book increased but I enjoyed it even more…so a book which i could finish in 2 hours i would take a week to finish!
Reading stopped completely for couple of years while I struggled with other things but now im trying to pick it up again! This post reminded me of all my childhood thoughts of how i can never read everything written till date!! 😄😄 that’s why i love your posts!! 😃
PS: cant help but notice so many ‘calculations’ coming from you!! 😀 that was the only uninteresting part for me as it broke my continuity and i went over it many times but then gave up!! 😛 though I understood what you wanted to convey…

3 to 4 books a week? HOW?? These cases has been really very rare for me and I so miss them.
But yes, since I have started reading I have taken a lot of breaks, sometimes really long, but I always turn back to them. It has somehow been the only constant in my life.

Haha yes 3-4 in a week and sometimes 1 per day! Which would mean marathon reading session extending whole night…but that depended upon the interest in the book and that hunger to read back then! Now i have so many distractions and things boggling the mind that it’s always diverted and not at peace to concentrate on reading.
Good you have started reading and continue to do so. I am trying to read more…have also joined a book club! Yesterday we discussed about ‘a thousand splendid suns’!!

My mother, the greatest reader I ever knew, once told me that when a little girl, she cried the day she realized she would never get to read all the books in the world!! She did pretty good, though, getting through a book a day while raising 4 kids and following her army husband around the world. (I won’t comment about her housekeeping, haha!)

Oh My!!! I am thrilled to read this, a book a day. Now that is certainly a very big achievement.
I wonder how she managed it..

You did see my comment about her housekeeping, right, haha! She did read more than a lifetime worth in her short life (she died young of lung cancer – she did smoke her cigarettes while reading, unfortunately😢) I dedicated my book Camp Follower One Army Brat’s Story by Michele Sabad to her memory🤗

I am sorry to hear about that. But it was so lovely of you to dedicate your book to her.
I was going through your blog as of now, and I surely find it interesting.

I guess it is nothing to do with trying to get a hand or your eyes into every book in the market, it is about the joys of reading, is it not?
