Suggestions, please?

Hey guys, how you doing?

I need some help today, umm, more of some advice. Could any of you help me with anything on publication of your work, I mean to say the publication of your book or something?

Firstly, nope, I am not publishing anything that I have written or will be writing, but there is a very dear friend of mine who is. And he has this various options in front of him, like finding a publisher, or publishing his books as an ebook, and what not. He even brought forward the kindle direct publishing. Well, he is confused, and as am I. I knew it’s difficult to become a published author, but I didn’t know the level of difficulties up till now.

I really want to help him in any way I can. But more importantly I also want to know the details on the subject.

Any kind of help or information on the subject of publication will be highly appreciated.

Thank you to all the lovelies, in advance.

    1. Actually he isn’t sure of anything as of now. he is in the initial stages where he has finally worked up the courage to publish something. He has all options open. He wants to know about both of them, like what involves what, which is easier, what is it going to take ti be published. So if you know anyone, or know someplace where we can read about publishing, like really knowing what we are getting into, please let us know here or you could drop me a mail at aestheticmiradh@gmail.com

  2. Getting published is not as hard as it might appear. Publishing decisions rely a lot on what it is that is being put into the world. If you write poems or short stories these can be published in journals or entered into competitions to build your profile. After a while a body of work can be published as a collection. Look at the careers of authors you admire and see if that can serve as a model. Being a writer is a noble and lifelong decision that exceeds concerns about being published.

  3. Well i did self-publish using Amazon’s kdp which uses create space for printing hard copies…but it’s not available in india…so not a good option if looking for hard copies in india. But it can be used for ebooks….self-publish works best if one has a good social media presence. the other option (which i didnt try) is via agent…i have heard about an agent Kanishka Gupta of ‘writer’s side’…he can approach him…as well as Notion Press, Pothi or Partridge publications for self publishing (partridge is not free and charges around 10k)…another option is grapevine publications by author sachin garg.

  4. Amazon is a good option for ebooks in India. But they are not selling printed books in india. then there is smash word for ebooks..both are free options which lets you self publish the book..
    And from my experience,
“self publishing enhanced my pride as one has to do it all oneself.. All the back ground works has to be done by oneself when self publishing. .. So it’s a little bit cumbersome task. but once you understand the procedures, next time, it would be easy…the problem with self publishing is marketing. that also you have to do yourself..but in traditional publishing, author as no burden at all.. but getting the publisher is the problem with traditional publishing”
