Sea Prayer!

A Sea prayer is published as a book but honestly it’s a poem. It is a lucid, magical poem with such colorful and breathtaking illustrations that I spent more time looking and gawking than reading.

The prayer seems like a bedtime story for a kid, spoken by his father on a moonlit night, but you’ll realize very soon that it just cannot be a story for that kid. It is way more intense than that. The father, a resident of Syria is not only nostalgic but makes you go through the moving scenarios and memories that run through his mind.

Khaled Hosseini is one word the best. I mean come on, have you read his books? In this 10 minute read you will be left with a 1000 different questions and you will have no answer whatsoever. The war, meaninglessness, the fear of unknown, love for his child, for his family, and the terror that grips the father for his child is so well portrayed in so few a words.

I guess that is the magic of poetry, you can say so much in so few words and your readers just don’t know what to do with them. It will take literally 10 minutes to finish this book, but I spent 30 instead, gaping at the mind-numbing illustrations, and I am still pondering over the book. It is just moving, but then again I could be biased towards Hosseini. Find out yourself if I am bias or not.

Also, I need to thank  for sending me this for my birthday. I had all the books from this author and now I have this copy too.

Why so many pictures?

It’s an illustrated book, so an illustrated review to tempt you into reading the entire book. 😉

April Reads!

As much as I am shocked that we are already down with four months of the year, I think I may have covered up pretty much last month. Well, I am talking about reading and a little bit of writing. I started with having completed nine read books in January but it fell down to only two in the next months. And as for as writing is concerned it is almost on the same level.

But April, 2019, surprisingly was very productive considering my lackadaisical behaviour which lingers all year long!

When it comes to writing, you all know I am down to 30 poetries in the last month, which for sure might need a lot of editing but at the least it is there! And when it comes to reading, well, I think I have pretty much picked up my pace there too. And April, surprisingly was just AWESOME!

Here are the books that I read, some were really mind-boggling, others were good and yet some were disappointing. I am not doing any reviews here, the reviews are on Goodreads, if you want to find out more.

Find out below my April Reads:

1

Now this was HILARIOUS, I mean dealing with a serious issue, but still hilarious. You might want to pick it up if you want to read something a little out of the ordinary, despite the ordinariness.

2.jpg

Go ahead, judge me!!

3

Now this was a little unique. Mystery and demons and magic. Fictitious yet believable.

4.jpg

A simple historical romance, I’d say, but not so simple after all.

5.jpg

Judged again? But honestly, not quite worth it, I mean the book obviously 😉

6.jpg

This was my first with romance and thrill combined, and I was constantly on a roller-coaster ride, trying to find out what the hell happens. Might as well have developed a secret girl crush here.

7.jpg

Okay now some serious reading. (And of course I cannot judge it)

8.png

If the book title and the author itself isn’t enough for you to pick the book up,  then the humour, the mocking and the ideas written should be.

9.jpg

A very short poetry book, and it moves you considering the reality of the tragedy that the poet goes through.

10.jpg

This was my favourite from the month. The fact that that nothing is meaningful and the meaninglessness of life haas always hooked me.

11.png

CUTE! CUTE! CUTE!

12..jpg

Disappointed. Still wondering if to pick up the second one in the series or not!

13.jpg

I hadn’t expected much off it. However, it proved surprisingly great considering the least popularity of the book. In fact some of the passages delve into ‘life’ so much that its sheer simplicity would shock you. A decent historical fiction with wars, romance and a curse to add flavour to the book.

14.jpg

Only ‘some’ teens would like it. NOT MY CUP OF TEA!!!

Yeah, so 14 books in a month, not bad I guess?

What about you guys? What are you reading, what were you reading? Any recent favourites?

I am pretty sure, you won’t keep a book-addict waiting too long!!

Reverie.

In living an existence of insanity

A being of absolutely solidarity,

She found solace among inanimate objects

Amidst her life which was completely wrecked.

She fell in love with words.

When everyone thought her to be absurd,

She made books her escape mechanism

While her heart screamed abstract expressionism.

She fell in love with fantasy

Loathing her reality,

Making her miseries unconscious

She made books her life’s colossus.

Of course, I am not insane, right!! How can I be any kind of addict except a book addict 😉

img_3083.png

I promise, just one more 😀

Men at some time are masters of their fates. The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves!

img_2874.jpg

Well, truly so!

img_2824.png

True! True! True….

img_2775.png

I chose to remain mum 😉

img_2755.png

I sure do! (Sigh)

img_2730.png

Hahaha, this is absolutely me and I am still not satisfied 😀

img_2726.png

Honest to God, I need this kind of support!!!

img_2617.png

And may be, coffee?

img_2569.png

Probably the only reason, why I don’t do good in relationships 😀

img_2591.png

Seriously, clear your mind people!!!

img_2581.png

Haha, this is true too!

img_2728.png

Totally true! Period..

IMG_2557

Well, this is true too.

Hope you had a good laugh, if not, well I am sorry! It’s books we are talking about, so it is important to me and me alone.

Books are and will be a big part of my life.

They have been with me when no one else was.

They have been through me, and been through a lot with me.

When nothing works, a book, empty or otherwise, always comes to my rescue.

So here’s to all the readers and writers, who have a very intelligent and safe addiction of fantasy, having an escape form reality!

Hope you had a fun time with my book shenanigans.

Have a great day!

You are a Reader.

Today I have another reader realization, Bare with me..

You know you are a reader, you are certain that it is the only pleasure in your life, that it is the only solution to all your problems, that reading is the only source to digress yourself from all those problems, that reading is the only way to maintain sanity and that it is the only way to run away from reality.

So you think that you are a reader.

At least I thought so, or rather I think so, every time I see a book and find my mouth drooping at the magical words.

Until recently when I literally dozed off early in the morning, a book in my hand, and woke up after two hours only to realize that I was already running late for the day.

How come I dozed off? Well, as it happens, I am up for reading anything any place by anyone only till I am willing to do it, which is of my own accord. But as soon as someone pressurizes me for it, my mind stops working and I go numb. In this case, I am being pressurized by the so called ‘College people, here the examiners’.

My exams are coming up and I don’t understand why that this time I have to really try hard to even study what I like. My papers consists everything that I like, at least mostly what I like. I have to read theories, novels, stories and poems for them and yet here I am, trying to not nod off while preparing for them. Seriously, what is wrong with me? Had I heard of something from someplace else, I would definitely go and hunt down every little information about it and read it even in the middle of the night. But since it is in my syllabus all I am thinking about is that I have to study it, prepare an answer and then just write it down in my exam. I absolutely understand that this is wrong, the entire concept is wrong, this way I don’t understand anything and will be blindly following the teaching method usually applied. I have never been this, but I don’t know what is wrong. I am concentrating only on the fact that I have ‘exams.’

I’ll give you an instance, if I had come across the word ‘Marxism’ some place else then I was sure to Google every detail about it and read it till I understood it, but now that it is in my syllabus, I am almost day dreaming about sipping a drink near the ocean under the warm sun after my exams.

And I called myself a reader? I guess the problem is that not only I have to read it but understand it, retain it and prepare for the ‘exams’.

Okay, enough with the word ‘exams’ today, I guess I’ll go and pick up some long forgotten book which I might have read so many times, only to remind myself that I am a reader. 😀
