Current Reading List!

I cannot say that I am at a lot of disposal of time these days to have a current reading list, but after my recent circus show in my life, I desperately needed an escape. A real escape. And so I have been drowning myself in books.

Before, I would pick up a book and read it front and back, till I was satisfied with it, and only then would I have gone on to the next book. But off late, my concentration capacity has been so belittled that even when it comes to books, I have started shifting from one to another. And I don’t even know if it’s helping me. But as of now I have picked up a set of books and am reading them in bits and parts, and so far so good! The only problem is I am taking longer than usual to complete each book. The result of which is, my mind is getting more curious by the day, I get anxious, and wonder what exactly is wrong with me that I am taking so long to complete a book!!

I know, and I agree with my over-reactions. But all the same, I am enjoying for the time being, to have a big set of books to go back to everyday.

The list incorporate:

  • A Man Called Ove By Fredrik Backman
  • A collection of poems by Rumi
  • Another book of Urdu poetry with Hindi and English translations
  • A poetry collection of  Pablo Neruda.
  • Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell. (This has taken so much of time now that I really want to finish it. I cannot blame anyone, for the length of the book makes anyone slower. But now, I am curious too of this very brave and forward Katie Scarlett O’Hara)

And if this was not enough, I am reading this again.

I don’t know what I am trying to do, live the good old childhood days or am I simply trying to believe in something called magic? But I am reading this for the second time this month, and I am not even ashamed of it.

And if all of this was not enough, I ordered another book for myself, despite the unread books that I have, including the huge set that I was gifted on my birthday. Well, in my defence I was ordering two books for my exams, and somehow I thought books just for exams doesn’t seem exactly apt, right? So I should order at least one good book to read too. And that’s how this little one reached me:

So, yeah, that’s it. This is my current reading list.

Not that I am free of work or my exams and assignments, but I am just reading them all the same.

Have you read any of these?

Any thoughts on them, or to say on my recent obsession for reading more than I can manage on a work day?

If not, then Happy Reading 😀

A Writer Without Words!

Today, they introduced me as a writer, and honestly, I did not see that coming. People keep telling me, that I am a writer, but there is some part of me that still does not believe that.

Anyways so there I was being introduced as a writer, and then the irony struck me. The very same morning I was struggling with words to describe what I was feeling, and I failed. Then I tried completing my assignments, failed! And then I started working on a fictional plot, at which I failed again.

I am not talking about the writers’ block, I kept writing, I kept taking notes, I kept typing, but I was not satisfied with it, I still felt that the feelings were unclear, and what I was saying were mere words. But if they were words, then why was I feeling the absence of emotions. And if I had words, then was I not a writer after all? But then only putting words isn’t a writers job, his job is to bring even fiction to reality. So where was I going wrong?

I had words, but still I felt I was not a writer.

On second thoughts, I felt I did not even have the words, all I had was the feeling, the love, the hatred, required for being a writer. The words that I say I wrote, were not mine, they did not justify how I felt, how I wanted things to come out, they simply did a job of being portrayed as a writer’s work. They were just there on paper.

So now, I did not even have words, and yet I was a writer?

I Shall Not Live In Vain!

A Long drive,

Winds battling speed,

Rains drenching your soul.

And these words, these beautiful words glorify your thoughts.

.

“If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.”
-Emily Dickinson

This very short piece touched a deep chord today.

Because this lovely lady never fails to make me wonder how much I love her.

Still I rise!

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don’t you take it awful hard
’Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I’ve got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise

I rise.

-Maya Angelou.

And thus I love this woman too.

Words!

Words are important.

What I wrote above are just three words, but if I sit and think about it, it is as significant as words for me.

A person really needs to think what he is saying before he speaks those words out, before it is too late. You cannot take back those words.

Words are a person’s thoughts, his mind, you can really make a person feel loved by them or you can break a person too.

Words are simply significant.

For me words are my feelings, my heart, my soul, my truth. Whatever language they may be in, it doesn’t matter, words are words, and they are me.

I speak very less in person, I like to listen more. (Because most of the time the other person does not like to listen.). But there is a reason I speak less. I think I have no right judging and forcing my views on others. This does not mean I keep things to myself, I let my feelings out too, but in a more measured and careful way. I can’t just bring myself to destroy the other’s belief, right or wrong. May be I overthink this too, as I overthink everything else, but when someone tells me something, I believe it, when someone is rude with his words, I tend to get hurt, or I think I get over-hurt; when someone says something nice to me, I get over-joyed, all because I love the words they have said. I give so much importance to those words, when in actuality they could do with a little less paparazzi. (Only to avoid getting overjoyed and over-destroyed)

But what can I say, I may be an emotional fool to say that words touch me where people fail to.

Words are significant to me.

They touch my soul.

Importance of Language

Ever wondered, what if there was no language?

What if we humans too would depend on only sign language and sounds like other beings?

Would everything will be simpler or more complex?

Would communication be any simpler with lesser options, or would it be more demanding?

What if there were no words, and only feelings?

Questions, Questions!

  • When exactly is someone ready?
  • Is head over heels really a thing?
  • Just how many before the one?
  • How do you know it’s him?
  • What if you think you are done with all the hassle but one last try could give you what you wanted all along?
  • what if you try, and fail all over again?
  • can we not learn after the first heart break?
  • how do even sometimes explain what you think, what you have in mind?
  • how do even words justify to your feelings?
  • Just how?

You might not have the answer to them, but Just have a good laugh over my continuous unending ramblings.

Have a good day. 🙂
